The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen is one of the world’s leading orchestras and captivates audiences worldwide with its unique musical style. The Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi has been its artistic director since 2004. In 2024, this ‘dream team’ (NDR Kultur) celebrated 20 years of a trusting and fruitful partnership.

A highlight of their collaboration with Järvi was their joint Beethoven project, which garnered worldwide acclaim for its performances and international praise for their recordings. This was followed by a phenomenal Schumann and Brahms cycle. A highlight of the Brahms project was the internationally acclaimed performance of the Requiem on 10 April 2018 in Bremen Cathedral, exactly 150 years after its world premiere. The recording has been released on DVD and Blu-ray by C-Major. According to Die Zeit, the Bremen Brahms recording, which won the Opus Klassik award, is “a benchmark recording” and will “[…] resonate for a long time to come” (hr2 kultur). In October 2019, ‘The Brahms Code’ was released – a TV/DVD documentary by Deutsche Welle/Unitel about the Brahms Project – which won the Silver Award at the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards and was named Best Music Film of 2020 by the jury of the German Record Critics’ Award.

Since autumn 2021, the focus has been on Joseph Haydn’s London Symphonies. The first concerts took place in Vienna. In winter 2022, the Kammerphilharmonie and Järvi embarked on a tour of Europe and Asia with Haydn’s London Symphonies. For the first CD (2023), the orchestra was awarded the ‘Orchestra of the Year’ prize by the renowned British classical music magazine Gramophone, and in 2024 it received the Opus Klassik award, also in the ‘Orchestra of the Year’ category. In autumn 2024, the NDR and Deutsche Welle documentary entitled “The Haydn Expedition” was released, and in November 2024 the second CD featuring four further London Symphonies. For its recordings and its unique ‘Future Lab’ – a driving force for social development and now a global movement – the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has been honoured with countless awards, including the Echo Klassik, Opus Klassik and Diapason d’Or.

Alongside Järvi, the young Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski has been the orchestra’s first Principal Guest Conductor since early 2022. For many years, the orchestra has maintained close musical ties with international soloists such as Lang Lang, Janine Jansen, Igor Levit, Christian Tetzlaff and Hilary Hahn.

Since its opening in 2017, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has been one of the resident orchestras at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and has long served as the resident orchestra at the Kölner Philharmonie. In 2019, the orchestra became the first Orchestra in Residence at the Rheingau Music Festival and was awarded the Rheingau Music Prize for its pioneering projects and the new chapter in the history of musical interpretation that these have written.

The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen will perform on 29 July 2026
