From her status as a leading figure among the world’s finest violinists, both as a soloist and chamber musician, to her role as artistic director and esteemed professor – Julia Fischer embodies artistic versatility in its purest form. With her extraordinary virtuosity, her musical passion and great versatility, she has carved out a unique place for herself amongst the greats of music. She has been honoured with numerous prestigious awards, such as the Federal Cross of Merit, the German Culture Prize and the Bavarian Order of Maximilian, which recognise her role as an outstanding cultural ambassador. She is also in high demand for cross-cultural events; for instance, she performed at the 2023 Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm alongside the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Early in her career, Julia Fischer set a milestone by winning first prize at the International Yehudi Menuhin Competition in 1995. Since then, she has conquered the world’s stages and has appeared as a guest with the most prestigious orchestras, where she has collaborated with renowned conductors, including Herbert Blomstedt, Alan Gilbert, Jakub Hrůša, Vladimir Jurowski, Juanjo Mena, Riccardo Muti, Kirill Petrenko, Vasily Petrenko, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Thomas Søndergård, Michael Sanderling, Christian Thielemann, Michael Tilson-Thomas and Franz Welser-Möst, as well as, in the past, with Yakov Kreizberg, Lorin Maazel, Giuseppe Sinopoli and Yuri Termikanov. Their performances are characterised by technical brilliance and deep emotional intensity that captivate the audience.

In the 2025/2026 season, Julia Fischer will embark on a major European tour with her quartet – Alexander Sitkovetsky, Nils Mönkemeyer and Benjamin Nyffenegger. This will be followed by performances with the Basel Symphony Orchestra under Markus Poschner and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra under Manfred Honeck. She will perform Suk’s Fantasy Op. 24 with the Berlin Philharmonic under Jakob Hrůša, marking her first appearance with the orchestra at the Berlin Philharmonie. She will also feature at the Kissinger Sommer, performing both with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and with the pianist Yulianna Avdeeva, with whom she regularly performs.

As a passionate chamber musician, Julia Fischer has forged further close musical partnerships: highlights of the past season include a European and US tour with pianist Jan Lisiecki and concerts with cellist Daniel Müller-Schott. Julia Fischer also has a close relationship with the long-established British chamber orchestra, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, as demonstrated by a joint anniversary tour across Europe to mark the 100th birthday of its founder, Sir Neville Marriner, in 2024. In addition to the Academy, she conducts other orchestras such as the Kammerakademie Potsdam and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra from the first chair.

From 2024, Julia Fischer and Benjamin Nyffenegger will take over as artistic directors of the ‘Boswiler Sommer’, a prestigious chamber music festival in Aargau, Switzerland – yet another role for the artist, who is always striving to explore new musical horizons.

Julia Fischer’s exceptional talent has also been recognised in numerous recordings. She has been honoured with major awards such as the BBC Music Magazine Award, the Gramophone Award and the German Record Critics’ Award. Since 2017, she has been presenting her masterpieces exclusively on the JF CLUB, her own platform, where she showcases her latest recordings and offers members a personal insight into her work. In 2021, she also delighted her fans with a limited-edition JF CLUB release of the sonatas by Eugène Ysaye, released exclusively on vinyl by Hänssler Classic.

As a mentor, she is dedicated and passionately committed to nurturing young talent. Through masterclasses and her founding of the Children’s Symphony Orchestra, she opens the doors to the world of classical music for the youngest musicians.

Julia Fischer began her musical training at the age of three. She first took violin lessons and, shortly afterwards, piano lessons from her mother, Viera Fischer. At the age of nine, she became a junior student of the renowned violin professor Ana Chumachenco. She has since succeeded her as a violin professor at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts.

Playing a centuries-old violin by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, made in 1742, and a modern violin by Philipp Augustin, made in 2018, Julia Fischer brings the music to life.
