Omer Meir Wellber is one of the leading conductors of opera and orchestral repertoire. He is Music Director of the Teatro Massimo Palermo. Until the end of 2023, he also held this position at the Vienna Volksoper. He is also Artistic Director of the Toscanini Festival and a regular guest with renowned ensembles such as the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, and many others. Starting in the 2025/26 season, he will become General Music Director of the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra and General Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Hamburg State Opera.

From 2018 to 2022, Omer Meir Wellber was Principal Guest Conductor at the Semperoper Dresden. Highlights of his time as Chief Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic from 2019 to 2022 included concerts at the BBC Proms. In 2022, Wellber was a Portrait Artist of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, performing both at the conductor’s podium and on the accordion, harpsichord, and grand piano. In addition to his diverse international engagements, Wellber maintains close ties with ensembles in his native Israel, for example, as Music Director of the Raanana Symphonette, with which he is particularly committed to music education. The conductor is also an author. His novel “The Four Powerlessnesses of Chaim Birkner” was published in autumn 2019. Wellber has already performed on several tours with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
