Münchner Symphoniker
Orchestra

Dynamic, bold, visionary.
With a wealth of innovation and imagination, as well as a healthy dose of experimentation, the Munich Symphony Orchestra is an exceptional ensemble. Through multifaceted and stimulating programs, the orchestra discovers new worlds of sound together with its audience and invites them to rethink (and not only) classical music. Since its founding in 1945, the Munich Symphony Orchestra has provided a forum for outstanding artists of the younger generation and has collaborated with, among others, Julia Hagen, Asya Fateyeva, and Fatma Said. Renowned names such as Alondra de la Parra, Maximilian Hornung, Arabella Steinbacher, Christian Schmitt, and Jonas Kaufmann also create musical highlights. The orchestra is distinguished by its unconventional play with tradition, as well as its collaborations with musicians from other musical genres.
The Munich Symphony Orchestra is breaking new ground, particularly with visionary projects in the field of cultural education: The “MSY goes VR” project, which won the “KULTURLICHTER – German Prize for Cultural Education” award, brings classical music to people using innovative virtual reality technology, creating a new form of accessibility. With MASTERS OF INCLUSION, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, together with the Chair of Intellectual Development at LMU Munich and an inclusive ensemble from the Munich Kammerspiele, launched a special concert project, MASTERS OF INCLUSION, which was awarded the “Innovation Prize” by the German Orchestra Foundation and features people with and without disabilities on stage.
For more than 20 years, the Munich Symphony Orchestra has also brought music to schoolchildren with unparalleled commitment, bringing children to the rehearsal room during their popular rehearsal visits. And as an orchestra of change, they have set themselves the goal of musically highlighting the urgency of climate protection and a sustainable lifestyle.
A strong affinity for film music is deeply rooted in the history of the Munich Symphony Orchestra: they have recorded more than 650 film scores, including the Oscar-nominated soundtrack to “The Silence of the Lambs” and the music for film classics such as “The Neverending Story 3” and “Das Boot.” With around 100 concerts per season, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, without its own concert hall, is at home everywhere as sound ambassadors: in Munich’s concert halls as well as in clubs (Prinzregententheater, Isarphilharmonie, Allerheiligen-Hofkirche and Technikum in Werksviertel-Mitte), in the Munich area (Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Kempten, among others), as well as on concert tours on major stages at home and abroad. In short: the Munich Symphony Orchestra brings the “sound of our city” to the people of Munich and beyond. Today’s innovative and agile ensemble includes musicians from 17 nations and looks back on an extraordinary development. With Joseph Bastian as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director since the 2023/24 season, the Munich Symphony Orchestra has had the ideal partner to continue realizing bold and visionary concert projects and continually rediscover the love of classical music.
The Munich Symphony Orchestra will perform on 3. August 2025.
