Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen
Orchestra

The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen is one of the leading international orchestras and delights audiences worldwide with its unique style of music-making. The Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi has been its artistic director since 2004. The dream team (NDR Kultur) celebrated 20 years of trusting and fruitful collaboration in 2024.
A highlight of the collaboration with Järvi was the joint Beethoven project, with acclaimed performances worldwide and international praise for their recordings. Beethoven was followed by a phenomenal Schumann and Brahms cycle. A highlight of the Brahms project was the internationally acclaimed performance of the Requiem on 10 April 2018 in Bremen Cathedral, exactly 150 years after its premiere. The recording has been released on DVD and Blu-ray by C-Major. According to Die Zeit, the Bremen Brahms, which was awarded the Opus Klassik, is “a reference recording” and will “[…] resonate for a long time to come” (hr2 kultur). In October 2019, ‘The Brahms Code’ was released – a TV/DVD documentary by Deutsche Welle/Unitel about the Brahms project – honoured with the Silver Award at the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards and voted Best Music Film 2020 by the jury of the German Record Critics’ Award.
Since autumn 2021, the focus has been on Joseph Haydn’s London Symphonies. The first concerts were heard in Vienna. In winter 2022, the Chamber Philharmonic and Järvi embarked on a European and Asian tour with Haydn’s London Symphonies. For its first CD (2023), the orchestra was awarded “Orchestra of the Year” by the renowned British classical music magazine Gramophone, and in 2024 it received the Opus Klassik award, also in the “Orchestra of the Year” category. In autumn 2024, the NDR and Deutsche Welle documentary “The Haydn Expedition” was released, and in November 2024 the second CD with four more London symphonies was released. The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has been honored with countless awards such as Echo Klassik, Opus Klassik, and Diapason d’Or for its recordings and its unique future laboratory, a driving force for development for society and now a global movement.
In addition to Järvi, the young Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski has been the first Principal Guest Conductor in the orchestra’s history since the beginning of 2022. The orchestra has cultivated close musical friendships with international soloists such as Lang Lang, Janine Jansen, Igor Levit, Christian Tetzlaff, and Hilary Hahn for many years.
The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has been one of the resident orchestras of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg since its opening in 2017 and the long-standing resident orchestra of the Cologne Philharmonic. In 2019, the orchestra was the first Orchestra in Residence at the Rheingau Music Festival and was awarded the Rheingau Music Prize for its groundbreaking projects and the associated writing of interpretive history.
Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen plays at 5. August 2025
