Chaarts
Orchestra

The CHAARTS ensemble performed at Neuschwanstein Castle in 2024 to great acclaim. It was formed in 2010 at the legendary concert and production venue Künstlerhaus Boswil in Switzerland. It sees itself as the largest string quartet in the world because it brings together predominantly chamber musicians to form an extremely exciting and powerful ensemble of up to 35 classical music musicians. Modelled on the Lucerne Festival Orchestra founded by Claudio Abbado in 2003, CHAARTS has been inviting members of internationally established string quartets as well as members of successful chamber ensembles, soloists, concertmasters and solo wind players from leading European orchestras to take part in projects since 2010.
The musical focus is broad and includes music from the 17th century to the present day, often according to the motto ‘the big small and the small big’, i.e. chamber music versions of works for large orchestra in small formations or, for example, string quartets in large formations. This makes masterpieces accessible in a new way and allows them to be played in venues or concert series that would otherwise not be able to present this music.
CHAARTS works regularly with the Hungarian conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy and has performed with musicians such as Martha Argerich, Vilde Frang, Ian Bostridge, Giovanni Sollima, Mischa Maisky, Fazil Say, Regula Mühlemann, David Orlowsky, Felix Klieser, Avi Avital and the King’s Singers.
Chaarts opens the Neuschwanstein concerts with performances on 01 August 2025 and 02 August 2025
